A woman is dead and another injured in a leap from an upper floor in an apartment fire Tuesday night in North Highline.
According to King County Fire Public Information Officer Kyle Ohashi, speaking on behalf of the North Highline Fire Dept. crews were called shortly after 6pm Tuesday night and arrived at the Forest View apartments in the 12200 block of Ambaum Blvd. SW finding four floors involved, with smoke and flames coming from a lower floor. One woman leaped from an upper floor to escape the blaze and was injured. Upon knocking down the fire, firefighters found one adult woman dead. The injured woman was taken to the hospital. Another woman was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation.
Approximately twenty five people were displaced by the fire but many were able to return to their apartments. Three or four families may have to seek housing elsewhere since they were directly above the fire source which was on a lower floor and Red Cross was on the scene to assist. Metro transit brought two buses to keep those displaced warm and dry until they could either return or given other assistance.
The fire was caused by smoking materials officials said though no damage estimate was made as yet as fire investigators were in the process of making those determinations.
