Beka outside Shoppe Seahurst.
By Teanna Gentry
The Shoppe Seahurst is a new and adorably quaint Lifestyle and Home Goods store with some stunning antique furniture finds in the heart of Olde Burien. We asked to sit down with owner and Burien native Beka Atwood, to hear more about her new venture. Beka is a Mt. Rainier High school grad who participated in the Miss Burien Pageant back in 2007 and won. She was Beka Simmons then. The pageant disbanded after that year but Beka had the prize.
What is exciting about your business? Why should people come see you?
We started The Shoppe Seahurst because I needed a change of pace in my life and wanted to be a larger part in my community. We truly are a family business, this was my passion but my family has come around me and helped me every step of the way. If I'm not in the store, you are going to meet my mother Kim or husband Anthony. We also have a Shoppe Dog, Bentley Blue that is here with us everyday. Growing up, I always knew this area was a magical place, and I wanted to add to that. That being said, we try and stay as "Hyper Local" as we can. We are passionate about the community and its positive growth. We are always celebrating our community and the other businesses as well. We all have to work together to build on what we currently have. My husband really dove into his love for this town. He creates custom neighborhood prints and art to celebrate Burien and the surrounding areas. We have created Burien and 98166 pillows as well as neighborhood candles to give new love and "scents" to the people who live here. These are great for a friend or family member that moved away, or for the new neighbor to welcome them home. With a background in events and interiors, I try and make everything I bring into The Shoppe have intent, and love. The pieces that you get from The Shoppe Seahurst should bring you joy or spark a memory. That is what makes a great gift or a house a home.
Any special notes from you about the business or upcoming anniversaries?
We opened on our wedding anniversary, so we will always have two anniversaries to celebrate. We will have a 1-year anniversary party the weekend of August 3rd, 2019. If we have anything new or any event we always try and keep our customers posted through our Instagram and Facebook @TheShoppeSeahurst. We are also celebrating new products with your "Favorite Things Friday" where we let you know our favorite things of the week.
What makes your business different?
We try to bring new products and custom items into the store. We don't buy large quantities of items, so it stays fresh. The Shoppe Seahurst is different every time you come in. We want you to feel that you are getting a little secret and we hope that you celebrate our curated items in your home or pass on the love to your friends and family. We also offer free wrapping for all your gifts, and we have gift cards too for the person that may be a little hard to buy for.
Who is Bentley Blue?
Bentley Blue is the shoppe dog. She's a 5 year old Maltese Poodle who helps us greet customers with her waggly tail. She's not for sale.
