Lauren Nguyen of West Seattle High School golfed her way to a second place finish in the state Class 3A girls competition Wednesday as Mount Rainier's Kennedy Knox tied for second in the girls 4A field.
Nguyen shot rounds of 71 both days of the 3A tournament at the Hawks Prairie course in Lacey for a total of 142 -- three strokes behind the 139 total of first place finisher Brittany Kwon from Central Kitsap.
Knox shot a 70 and a 76 in the 4A tournament played across the state at the Hangman Valley course in Spokane for a total of 176.
Alyssa Nguyen of Kennedy Catholic took seventh in the same tournament with a 77 and a 73 for a 150 total.
Lancers teammate Julia Diaz turned in an 80 and an 87 for a total of 167, tying her for 25th place.
James Navarro of Kennedy tied for 30th in the 4A boys action at The Creek at Qualchan course in Spokane. Navarro shot a 78 and a 79 for a two-day total of 157 strokes.
Jackson Pitney of Seattle Christian took 32nd in the 1A boys competition in Olympia with rounds of 87 and 92 for a total of 179.
Ballard's Grace Sanderson shot a 97 and a 104 for a total of 201 and 61st place in 3A girls tournament play at Hawks Prairie.
Congratulation's to all golfers. The game is hard enough - you all make it look so easy. Accolade's for my daughter Julia for going to State (again) as a sophomore and achieving a personal best shooting 77 in prior weeks' District tournament.
