You are invited to a farewell open house this Saturday for the current Des Moines Elementary building, which has been a school since 1925.
Walk the halls one last time on Saturday, June 1, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. See past and present faculty and staff, and reunite with old elementary school classmates.
There is no fee for the walk-through. There is a small cost for the lasagna dinner and other offerings to raise funds for the Des Moines Elementary PTSA prior to moving to a new, larger building, opening this fall at 23801 16th Ave South in Des Moines.

The event includes:
- Lasagna Dinner: $10/adult, $5/child (at the door), credits cards accepted. Available while it lasts.
- Mr. Everett's photo booth
- Homefront ice cream
- Student art raffle
- Teacher experiences for silent auction
- Bake sale
- Memory lane of yearbooks & plaques
- Slideshow
- Photos of the old school for sale
The building will be closed as a school at the end of this school year. The district plans to retain the property for other uses. The district plans to seek community input on any possible public use in the future.
