Talented Wesco 3A Mountlake Terrace took advantage of a tired NPSL 4A Mt. Rainier squad to run past the Rams 64-35 in a boys basketball game of the 2019 Alliance Flooring Showdown Challenge held at Highline College on Sat., Dec. 14.
The cumulative effect of playing four games in five days finally took its toll on Mt. Rainier.
"They were even too tired to celebrate after last night's victory," said Ram head coach Brandon Horstman.
The Rams fired away to a 5-0 lead before the weariness took effect against a solid Hawks squad.
Mountlake Terrace worked its inside-outside game while Mt. Rainier was unable to get inside as the Hawks pulled into a 20-14 lead after one quarter.
Settling for jump shots regularly, the Rams shot poorly while the fresh legs of Mountlake Terrace created strong rebounding and easy access to the basket as the Hawks had a 38-16 halftime bulge.
ML kept building the distance en route to victory.
The Hawks were led by a quartet of double figures scorers,
Mason Christianson posted 19 points with six boards and six assists. Jeffrey Anyimah and Robbie Baringer scored 12 points apiece. Both were good rebounders. Anyimah grabbed 10 caroms and Baringer six.
Six-foot, six-inch Jace Breakfield added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Robert Wright paced Mt. Rainier with 10 points.
