AUBURN - The young Mt. Rainier gymnastics team finished fourth with 106.6 points behind Auburn (118.2), Kentwood (124.6), and Thomas Jefferson (149.5) in a North Puget Sound League quad meet held at Jefferson on Tues., Jan. 21, but it was freshman Faith Antioquia that continued her strong progress with a fifth place all-around performance of 26.7 points.
"I'm doing a lot better today," she happily said. "I've added a lot of new skills on each event."
Antioquia swung to a tie for fifth on the bars at 5.5 to highlight her performance. She added a tie for seventh on the floor exercise (7.6), and a tie for ninth at 7.3 on the vault.
One of her additions is on the balance beam.
"I'm working on a dive cartwheel," she added.
Ilona Naumchuk swept the four individual events for the home team Raiders as the all-around champion at 34.9 points.
Her first places included an 8.85 on the beam, 8.5 on bars, and a 9.35 dominance on the floor exercise. Naumchuk tied Alysa Shimizu of Kentwood for an 8.5 top spot on the vault.
Shimizu earned 32.1 points for second on overall standings while Kaitlin Avila of TJ posted a 27-point third place total.
