During a special meeting on January 13, 2022, the Burien City Council adopted Ordinance 789 that extends Burien’s eviction moratorium through the end of the Governor’s state of emergency proclamation (20-05). The amended eviction moratorium only applies to evictions based on non-payment of rent or late fees.

The City Council created an emergency rent and utility assistance fund for Burien residents experiencing financial impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. Burien community members also have access to King County’s rental assistance funding. Help is available in multiple languages from King County, Catholic Community Services, and Multi-Service Center.
