Mayor Nickels has a heavy burden. In addition to grandstanding, ribbon-cutting and paper bags (more trees cut down) he is a promoter of taxpayer money for basketball teams, the chambers of commerce on earth and in the sky, the building industry, and Seattle's condo-izers and developers.

The mayor is also energetically engaged in building new low-income housing towers downtown in exchange for abolishing building height limits (soon as he takes the money out of his pocket). Look for an announcement regarding the ribbon-cutting on this fast-track project.

The mayor and City Council are relieved that due to State Legislature trepidation and inaction it is still perfectly legal to evict tenants for paying rent in furtherance of the condo-ization and economic cleansing of Seattle.

Additionally, in order to eliminate carbon emissions and to end traffic congestion the mayor is offering a bill to prohibit out-of-town condo buyers from bringing their SUV's and tanks to Seattle.

It should be noted, too, that the City Council continues to work hard and diligently to rubber-stamp the mayor's enlightened agenda.

There is wonderment that if this is a "Democratic" administration with a "Democratic" agenda, what in the world would the Republican version be like?
