coming next week
Thank you, Historian Kay, for the nice write-up (News-Tribune, April 23). You clearly spent some time with the Polk directories. I really appreciate the way you made the history seem familiar and approachable. I think that people are most likely to remember Boutin, as the other grocers were so much earlier that someone still alive would have to be quite old to recall them.
I think it is important to recognize not only the efforts of Groundswell NW, which did initiate the development of Ballard Corners Park, but I also would encourage recognizing the efforts of my cohorts in the Friends of Ballard Corners Park who took the park project from them in early 2006. Davidya Kasperzyk (a former Groundswell NW board member and Ballard architect) helped to initiate Ballard Corners Park. The Friends assumed the project from him and Groundswell NW and are making it a reality.
It may also be worth putting in a side note that the park project is now out to bid. The city will open bids on Wednesday, May 28th and hopes to begin construction by mid-June. See my blog entry here: http://ballardcornerspark.org/ballardcornerspark/index.php/2008/05/13/out-to-bid/.
We will also soon have donor tiles for sale to allow people's support for the park to be recognized.
