Early Sunday morning, a tow truck was called to the Junction to impound a van that was illegally parked. But the tow truck driver was punched in the jaw by an intoxicated man who was sleeping in the van. When officers arrived, the suspect, a Morgan Junction resident, refused to obey their commands and repeatedly yelled threats and racial slurs at them, just as he had at the tow truck driver. He was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault.
A witness saw a man placing grocery items into a backpack at an Alaska Junction store. When confronted, the suspect tried to bite the witness on the arm. The 52-year-old suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of theft and assault. His items of choice-two cans of Pringles, a bottle of chocolate milk, and three yogurt drinks-were turned over to the store.
Early Sunday, outside an Alki restaurant, two men punched a visitor from California, accusing him of grabbing a woman's rear-end. The victim had just arrived at the establishment with a female friend and hadn't had contact with anyone. He was punched several times in the head and face and fell to the ground. A bystander stepped in and prevented further assault. The suspects are both white males in their early 20s. One had a buzz-cut hairstyle. Both had light brown hair and a slim build.
Around May 1, a resident of the 5600 block of 26th SW put three money orders in his home mailbox for pickup by the postal carrier. They were made out to a mortgage company. In June, the mortgage company notified the man that he was in arrears. When the resident checked into the situation, he discovered that the money orders had obviously been stolen from the mailbox, as the payee's name had been changed. The person named on the checks has been arrested in the past for forgery and identity theft but is currently out of custody.
In another instance of mail theft, a citizen called 911 when he saw a white Dodge Caravan stop at a mailbox in the 4100 block of SW 107th. The suspects removed outgoing mail and drove away.
An elderly couple discovered that while they were eating dinner in the backyard, someone cut open their front screen door, let themselves into the house, and stole a strong box containing money and personal papers.
