The Seattle City Council last week unanimously chose Sally J. Clark to fill the council position vacated by Jim Compton.
Clark comes to the Council from Lifelong AIDS Alliance as director of community resources, said a council news release. She has served as legislative aid for the King County Council and has been a marketing and logistics assistant for the Cascade Center for Leadership and Public Services. She served briefly as executive director for the Northwest Association for Housing Affordability and was also a neighborhood Development Manager in Southeast Seattle for the City of Seattle from 1997 to 2002.
"I think in the final analysis, the range of candidates for this office highlights the great tapestry of skills and leadership that is at hand in this great city," said council president Nick Licata. "I don't think there's a council member who isn't proud of what we've done here today."
"I think the Council and City of Seattle are both well-served by the process we underwent and by this candidate we have now placed in position #9," said council member Richard Conlin. "She has a strong record of community involvement and her knowledge of the environment and of business, complimented by the support she receives in our city neighborhoods, proves she's a promising leader."
"We were extraordinarily blessed by the people who applied for this position," said Council member Jan Drago, "particularly by all of the committed people who stepped forward. They all are extremely well qualified and we give our deep gratitude to each of them for rolling up their sleeves and going through this complex process."
Clark's swearing in ceremony will take place in Council Chambers on Feb. 6.
