Admiral suffers strong-arm robberies
Wed, 02/15/2006
On Thursday afternoon, a number of citizens called in reports of strong-arm robberies in the Admiral area. In one case, three teens jumped from a black 2000 4-door Honda and assaulted several teens at the corner of California SW and SW Lander. Other incidents occurred at California and Massachusetts and on SW Hanford. The suspects are a white, black, and Hispanic male, from 5'6" to 6'in height. They remain at large.
And on Saturday afternoon, a black male teen, about 5'10" wearing a dark doo-rag, black shirt, and green jacket, stole a young woman's purse as she waited at a bus stop in North Admiral. The suspect ran south on California Avenue and jumped into a medium-sized, light blue, four-door sedan, which was missing its right front hubcap.
Because his mother didn't like him keeping his handgun in the house, a man in the Gatewood area decided to store it in the glove box of his car. Last week, he looked outside and noticed that the driver's door was ajar and the gun was missing. Not that it was difficult to again access to the firearm: The man showed officers how any key could open the driver's door.
A South Park business owner arranged to allow a renter to use her facility for weekend dances and karaoke. This month her own sound system, TVs and karaoke equipment disappeared, for a loss of over $2,000. The renter has returned his key and but has not returned the victim's phone calls.
As she walked past a gas station on 35th SW Monday afternoon, a teen heard a man yell, "What's up, girlie?" Although she kept walking, the suspect twice drove around nearby corners and waited for her to walk by. One time, he rolled down the window, asked her to come over, and asked how old she was. He finally drove off. The suspect is a black male in his 20s and wore dark clothing and a dark baseball cap. He drove a dark green, 2005 VW Golf with tinted windows.
Be on the lookout for a 40 lb, black iron pelican that was stolen from a porch on 15th SW last week.
After drinking heavily, a man became increasingly angry and violent with his girlfriend. He locked her out on a balcony at one point, and when she told him to leave and that she was calling 911, he ripped the phone from the wall. He grabbed a nine-inch knife and began swinging it as he pushed his girlfriend against the wall. As she fell to the floor, he stabbed the wall, coming within three inches of her head. He left before officers arrived, but was arrested the next day as he stood on the corner of Delridge and Roxbury. He was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault, violating a no contact order, and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence. He was already wanted on two outstanding warrants for assault and violation of a no-contact order. The amount of bail on the existing warrants alone was $30,000.
A woman who acknowledges she is mentally ill and off her meds was lucid enough to call 911 and request help after she took pills and drank alcohol. She told the operator that she had been hearing voices, and that the voices blamed her for the Seahawk's Super Bowl loss. Medics took the woman to Harborview for treatment.
When son was sent home early from school, but she had to go to work, mom decided to punish him by cutting the phone line to the computer so that he couldn't use the Internet while she was gone. And argument ensued, and officers ended up taking the boy to his aunt's house for the evening.
On 17th SW, unknown persons stole the tires and wheels to a woman's Toyota truck, which was parked in a rear alley.
