Tired of same old veggies?
By Annette Herrick
Tired of broccoli? Spinach? Steamed, saut/ed, stir fried, or raw and dipped in ranch? All beginning to taste the same?
Here's an idea. Why don't you go to the grocery store, PCC, Thriftway, Metropolitan Market; any store that you know will offer great, fresh variety and pick up a bunch of something you've never cooked before.
Then, Google a recipe. I Googled beets and found one that didn't call for much more than orange juice and grated orange peel. (http://www.dianaskitchen.com/page/recipes03/0905_beets.htmrecipe)
I also Googled rainbow chard. Did you know that chard's leaves can be prepared like spinach? And the stalks like asparagus? You can saut/ a couple pounds with olive oil, garlic cloves, and lemon. So simple, few cookbooks would dare suggest something so trouble-free. (http://www.truestarhealth.com/Notes/3592004.html)
I dare you to walk into the produce section, explore the aisle of collard greens, kale, chard, beets, and turnips. Pick up a bunch and cook something new.
Thanks to the Internet you can enjoy the flavors of foods you never thought to prepare yourself. All you have to do is type in the key word along with recipe. See what you can find. It's a lot of fun.
