As a parent and member of the Pathfinder Parent, Teacher, Student Association board I am appalled at the secret session to move our school. I absolutely do not support the revised Community Advisory Committee recommendation to move Pathfinder to the Boren site in the fall of 2007, as it is outlined in the final recommendation to the superintendent.
The Community Advisory Committee did not follow the correct process of open discussion but had a last minute closed door session.
The building the Community Advisory Committee is trying to push our school is not an improvement over our present building, is poorly located and possibly a higher crime area.
The new site the Community Advisory Committee is forcing is a lazy choice at best. This extra large facility will be very expensive to run and will not save the district money.
The proposed last minute move change does not reflect any of the Community Advisory Committee's stated principles; non-disruption, equity, better education and savings.
In summary, this proposed move does not make any sense for our school community and it is inappropriate for the success of our alternative program in the future. The (committee's) final report fails to provide any compelling rationale or a vision to support this move. The district must provide our community with a facility choice that is beneficial to our program in the future and offers a higher standard than what we currently have, otherwise I am prepared to actively and vehemently oppose this move.
