The Burien City Council has finally seen the light (White Center News article; June 28) that annexing North Highline is not in Burien's best interests.
The Deputy Mayor, Jack Block, Jr.. was quoted as saying "I don't think that we are ready for it." Considering that several of the Seattle City Council members have already stated that Seattle is willing to annex all of North Highline, and take on the financial demands, why does Burien keep talking about annexation of any kind?
And to make matters worse, after over a year of discussing possible lines at 116th, some well meaning Burien City Council members are moving lines north to 107th Street Southwest, without any input from our communities. This reflects badly on the Council as a whole and the City of Burien.
I have spoken with many homeowners who live north of 116th Street Southwest who say they will fight tooth and nail against Burien's annexation attempt. Many of these folks, including myself, would prefer to be part of Seattle.
