Washington State Ferries began its winter sailing schedule this month, which will continue through March.
Weekend service on the Fauntleroy/Vashon/Southworth route was reduced from three vessels to two.
The winter season is traditionally a slow season for the ferry system so seasonal cuts and changes in service are made to save money. This is the fourth year in a row for these seasonal cuts, which save the system approximately $500,000 each winter.
Under the winter schedule, there are 33 daily sailings from Fauntleroy to Vashon Island Monday through Friday, and 26 sailings each weekend day. The fare for a driver and vehicle is $18 during rush hour and $14.40 at other times. Passenger fare is $4.20 at all times.
Ferryboats sailing from Fauntleroy bound for Southworth now depart 26 times a day Monday through Friday. There are 18 runs a day on Saturday and Sunday.
A car and driver pays $10.90 during rush hour and $8.70 at non-peak times for Southworth trips. Passengers pay $5 at all times for passage to Southworth from Fauntleroy.
