Work is scheduled to resume Monday, March 19 on repaving California Avenue Southwest.
Now that most of the winter is over and outdoor temperatures are getting warm enough to work with asphalt, workers from Gary Merlino Construction Co. next will start repaving California Avenue from Southwest Genesee to Spokane Street.
Traffic through the work zone on California Avenue will be allowed to continue although cars will be restricted to one lane during morning and evening commuting hours. The restriction will be in place from 6 a.m. until 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Left turns from the California Avenue work zone will be prohibited while workers fix the center section of the arterial.
No parking 24 hours a day will be allowed on the section of California Avenue between Genesee and Spokane streets for four to five weeks.
After reconstruction of this next section is well underway, the California Avenue repaving project will continue northward from Spokane Street to Southwest Admiral Way. That work could begin before the section from Genesee to Spokane streets is completed.
The last section of the project will repave several blocks of Southwest Admiral Way, from California Avenue eastward to Admiral Viewpoint.
Repaving of California Avenue began last fall in the Junction, from Southwest Edmunds to Genesee streets. As cold weather closed in, crews finished the repaving job and two new midblock crosswalks in the Junction and cleared out prior to the Christmas shopping season.
