The work on California Avenue between Genesee Street and Spokane Street is progressing at a rapid pace, says the Seattle Department of Transportation.
Crews are repairing the underlying base of the street and are improving curb ramps to meet current standards. Preparations for final paving of this part of California Avenue SW will begin later this month and final paving is scheduled for the first week of May, weather permitting.
The paving contract includes California Avenue from Edmunds Street to Admiral Way and also on Admiral Way from 41st Avenue to Olga Street (by Admiral Viewpoint Park). The section of California Avenue between Edmunds Street and Genesee Street was completed last year before the contractor paused for winter weather.
The following traffic restrictions apply:
- Normal work hours for the contractor are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- During the peak periods (6-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.), at least one lane of traffic in each direction will be open.
- At other times, traffic may be restricted to one lane with the use of flaggers.
- Left turns to and from California Avenue will be prohibited during the work until they can safely be restored.
- During portions of the drainage work, several residential streets will not have direct access to California Avenue. Local residents may have to drive around the block.
- Parking will be prohibited as necessary to complete the work and provide safe, efficient traffic control.
