An Issaquah resident followed, yelled at, and made gun gestures at a car carrying three young people to West Seattle on Sunday evening. The incident started in Bellevue, and the man followed them all the way through Alki to the Junction, where officers pulled the suspect over. He claimed the kids were driving too slowly when they merged onto I-90 and had thrown something at his car when he passed them. Interviewed separately, the youngsters denied this, saying that as they merged at freeway speed the suspect vehicle came "flying up onto their bumper" and that the suspect car swerved into their lane and forced them to the shoulder. The Issaquah man (who said he was simply "following the kids home" so he could "talk to their parents") was released, but officers have asked that he be charged with harassment.
Early Thursday, three young men visited Hamilton Viewpoint after it closed. As they sat on a bench, several males walked up and ordered them to the ground at gunpoint. The suspects stole the mens' wallets and threw their cell phones into the bushes. One victim was punched in the nose, but did not require medical attention. The suspects remain at large.
Hot times in Morgan Junction: Firefighters parked their engine in the middle of a street as they battled a blaze. Unfortunately, the heat from the idling fire truck damaged the side of the car that they parked next to. The owner was told how to be reimbursed for the repair costs.
Wednesday afternoon, a number of citizens reported seeing the driver of a large, green SUV chasing another vehicle and firing shots (including one shot directed at a bystander who was waiting to cross the street at 38th and Genesee). The license plate of the suspect vehicle led officers to a Genesee Hill residence, where they arrested a 21-year-old man and gathered evidence (including a handgun). He was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault and drive-by shooting. Three .40-caliber shell casings were recovered from various spots along Genesee Street. The car being pursued is unidentified and was apparently able to elude the suspect. The female pedestrian was not injured.
A young girl flinched as Mom straightened her hair. Mom yelled at the girl and smacked her in the head with the hot hair iron, breaking the appliance in half. Mom continued to hit her with her hand and kicked her in the thigh, causing a bruise. A friend called 911, and officers discovered that the 11-year-old victim also had odd marks on her arms. Before breaking down in tears, she admitted that mom occasionally burned her on the arms with lit cigarettes. Mom was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault.
A woman was startled when a man poked his head through her bedroom window. He asked for "Juanita." She scared him away, but called 911. During their follow-up investigation, officers discovered a woman named Juanita lives in the corresponding unit of a different apartment building. (The buildings look similar.) Officers told her to make sure that all guests entering through the rear window verify they have the correct unit before climbing in.
