The mayor has asked the Seattle City Council to approve a one-time addition to his 2008 proposed budget that would make the money available for a $7 million "Orphaned Parks Wish Fund."
"We are fortunate to have so many beautiful and well-used parks in virtually every neighborhood in Seattle," said Mayor Greg Nickel. "Unfortunately, some have become orphaned over the years. This wish fund will allow people to apply for funds for their favorite park projects."
Applicants for funding will go through a competitive process, utilizing the existing Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund system.
Two such potential projects are in West Seattle: Skate spots for Roxhill Park or Delridge Playfield.
