West Seattle artists Daniel and Judith Caldwell created "Blue Sky Baskets," which stands at the triangle intersection of Delridge, Roxbury and16th.
The $90,000 project was commissioned by the White Center Community Development Association. Funds also came from the City of Seattle, State Arts Commission, and Starbucks.
A celebration took place at the Delridge triangle on Oct. 3, and a ribbon fastened to the sculpture was cut by artist Judith Caldwell, and Aileen Balahadia of the White Center Community Development Association.
"This artwork is about human migration. The three baskets represent luggage made by indigenous peoples," said Caldwell. "Its name refers to the 'skies are blue' line in the song, 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' which ties into the idea of the longing to travel to get somewhere better."
