South Park stabbing
Mon, 01/28/2008
Around 2 a.m. Sunday, at 8th and Cloverdale, a man and woman were walking, waiting for a light to change, when two men leapt from a passing Honda and demanded the man?s money. When he denied having any, one of the suspects pulled a knife and chased the man across the street, stabbing him in the leg and torso. The couple?s screams alerted citizens who called 911, and one who yelled for the victim to get to the fire station across the street for treatment. (Bleeding heavily, he was stabilized and taken to Harborview.) Suspects matching the description and car were later found at 11th and SW Austin when reports came in of suspicious activity in that neighborhood. Two of the three detained were released. The third, a 17-year-old with physical evidence linking him to the incident, was booked into the Youth Service Center for investigation of assault and robbery.
Two Department of Transportation workers were startled when a man came out of an apartment near their jobsite at Fauntleroy and Juneau, opened his robe, and fondled himself in front of them.
At 44th and Alaska, officers secured a woman who was being disruptive and uncooperative at a disturbance call. Though she was handcuffed and in a fastened seat belt, she managed to kick out a rear window of a patrol car. So officers zip-tied her legs together (to prevent any further damage) and gave her a ride to King County Jail. The entire incident was captured on patrol-car video.
In South Park, officers stopped a driver who failed to use his turn signal. Turns out the Burien man was driving with a suspended license and was wanted on a no-bail Department of Corrections felony escape warrant. As a bonus, officers found cocaine in the man?s pants pocket and in the car console. He was taken to King County Jail and booked for the warrant and for investigation of drug charges and the license violation.
Near 10th and Cloverdale, an officer approached a driver he had seen with an open container of beer. From the other side of the car, the officer?s partner warned that he could see a ?huge knife? between the suspect?s legs (which the suspect then tried to conceal under the front seat). The man refused repeated orders to show his hands and he struggled with the officers. He was booked into King County jail for investigation of unlawful possession of the knife (which was 8.5 inches long) and for resisting arrest.
As they walked in a South Park alley, three teens were jumped by two carsful of gang members who wanted to know their ?affiliation.? The three denied gang membership, but one boy was punched several times while another was shoved to the ground. When the lone female told the suspects to leave them alone, she was pistol whipped. Several of the suspects pointed handguns at the three before driving off in a white 4-door Honda and a green Ford Explorer.
