A christian themed play whose parts came to a local playwright as pure inspiration will debut April 24tth at Grace Baptist Church. Written by local teacher and playwright Lori Simmons, "Even Unto Death" is based on the true account of St. Perpetua and her slave Felcitas, who were martyred along with Revocatus, the slave and their pastor, Saturus in the year 203 A.D All the main characters actually lived. The group portrayed in the play went on to become a center of Bible teaching in the late Roman empire.
Simmons, a teacher at Shorewood Christian School who has had drama training and has written numerous shorter plays said, "For almost a year I continued to have scenes and ideas come to my head in regard to this story line....I eventually decided, I don't know anything about this time period... I didn't know anything about if these characters really lived... as I began to research... I could see in history they really lived and I ended up writing the story."
Featured in the play is well known local Realtor James Tibbetts. "I think it's really about what Lori said, that she had this miraculously inspired play."
Only two adults are playing parts in the production with the bulk of the players being junior high students. "She's taking a huge risk promoting her baby, her precious jewel of this play," said Tibbetts.
The play will be performed on April 24th and 25th at 7:00p.m. Grace Baptist Church is located at 10323 28th Ave. S.W.
