The Friends of Lincoln Park would like to thank and celebrate eight eighth-graders from Our Lady of Guadalupe School. Izel Villarba, Reid Ellingsen, Rebecca Van-Den-Ende, Megan Kennedy, Karl Merz, Lorenzo Quintos, Kayla Kalie each put in 10 hours of work in the park as part of their community service.
It's been a cold, wet spring, but the young people persevered. They were mature, hard working and responsible. And they did a great service for the park by removing a considerable volume of "Stinky Bob" (Herb Robert), an invasive geranium relative that will crowd out low-growing native flowers in the Park if left unchecked.
Lincoln Park is a real West Seattle treasure with maybe the greatest native plant diversity of any park in the city. Friends of Lincoln Park is a group of volunteers working to restore the wooded areas of the park, removing blackberry, ivy, holly, etc. and planting natives. We are part of the Green Seattle Partnership (www.greenseattle.org). We welcome the involvement of volunteers of all ages at our monthly work parties (first Saturday of each month). And we want to say the students at Guadalupe ROCK!
