Highline public school administrators, teachers, counselors, and PTSAs are planning an After High School program for all district high school students and their parents.
The event, which will be attended by representatives from over 25 universities, apprenticeship programs and community and technical colleges, will be Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Highline Performing Arts Center, 401 S. 152nd St., in Burien.
During the two-hour event, participants will hear from Superintendent John Welch and get tips from Highline District high school graduates who are succeeding in college.
Parents and students will then choose from a variety of short workshops offered by college and technical program representatives.
Workshops will also address programs for earning college credit while in high school, financing college writing a college essay, SAT strategies and more.
All presenters and college representatives will be available at information tables after the workshops.
"This is an incredible opportunity for students and parents to gather all the information they'll need for after high school planning during one evening," stated Julie Burr Spani, event coordinator.
She emphasized that this event is not just for juniors and seniors.
"Freshmen and sophomores who understand the benefits of college and get information on college admissions criteria early in high school often are more successful in school and have more options after graduation," said Spani.
