Should we keep the Burien Library in its current location and build an expansion tower above it? Yes, of course, we should. Libraries are important for the continuing education of us, the people, and I think that the current, beautiful Burien Library is the most pleasant library in the King County Library System.
As I walk into the attractive library building from my van, parked in the pleasant, tree-surrounded parking lot, next to a public park, I gain a feeling of peacefulness. Unfortunately, important people have decided that our beautiful Burien Library is not to continue in its present, peaceful location. Instead they want to build a new library in what they hope will become a busy location (which is bad for library users who drive cars).
These decision makers want to put the replacement library into their proposed Burien Town Square in the center of Burien that will probably destroy the tranquillity we have at the current location. Over time, downtown Burien will probably become busier and busier. The center-of-town location, a terrible idea, will probably cause parking stress for the library users. Placing the library users and their cars in the center of town will cause them to compete for parking space with shoppers and new downtown residents as Burien grows.
Instead of building a new 40,000 square foot Burien Library, I would prefer that only a 20,000 square foot second floor or even more floors be built above the current 20,000 square foot, beautiful Burien Library.
