Over 120 Burien-area fun-lovers gathered on March 26 to participate in the first “B-Town Rally.”
The event was organized to benefit New Futures, a Burien-based nonprofit, and to build awareness of the family-support programs New Futures operates in three of King County's largest low-income apartment complexes.
New Futures executive director Ruth Dickey thanked participants for their generosity, reporting that the event raised approximately $8,000 for New Futures.
To start the rally, each team was given a cryptic clue to find a Burien-area landmark where they would obtain the clues necessary to find the next landmark. Successful teams solved six clues to find all six landmarks and answered trivia questions about each location.
At the conclusion of the rally a celebratory dinner and awards ceremony was held at Mick Kelly’s Irish Pub.
Winners of the first B-Town Rally were Three Tree Point residents Brad and Jann Crosta and Terry and Ursula Haigh.
Rally organizers were Kathy and Charlie Perkins, Dana and Kent Bailey, Kim and Charlie Baisch, and Julie Burr and Marco Spani.
Each year, New Futures serves more than 2,000 children and adults through on-site programs at apartment complexes in Burien, White Center and SeaTac.
The agency’s children’s programs include after-school enrichment for elementary school children and teen leadership development.
Family programs include language, computer and parenting classes, as well as family advocacy services that help families become more self-sufficient.
