Boys soccer
Foster 3, Vashon Island 2
Foster journeyed across the Puget Sound to Vashon Island Tuesday, May 9 and it paid off in the West Central District tournament victory.
Kamal Matan scored the first goal in the 17th minute off an assist from Secret Tolo. Matan also scored the next one on a Sheikhnour Farah in the 70th minute. Chris Tomoson put the third and winning goal in the back of the net on a Farah assist in the 75th minute.
Victor Carillo scored Vashon Island’s first goal on an unassisted play in the 36th minute and Theo Krah scored unassisted in the same minute.
Mt. R. 2, Bonney Lk. 1
Ruben Orozco saved the day for Mount Rainier in last Tuesday’s playoff, scoring the tying goal in the 76th minute.
Bonney Lake had taken the early lead in the 66th minute.
But, thanks to Orozco, the match went through two overtime periods and to a shootout -- and Mount Rainier won it by a 4-2 score.
Kennedy 6, Franklin Pierce 0
Chris Blais earned the shutout on goal for the Lancers Thursday, while Josh Burnside provided most of the offensive punch by scoring two goals and earning one assist.
Highline 2, Mt. Rainier 1
Highline nailed down a state berth with its shootout win over the Mount Rainier Rams Thursday.

Mt. R. 9, Lake Tapps 0
Dan Merrill scored three goals and one assist to lead Mount Rainier past Lake Tapps in Tuesday, May 9 action. Matt Nugent tacked on three goals of his own and Adam Comman scored two goals.

Kennedy 11, Sequim 7
The host Lancers outhit the Wolves, 14-10, and outscored them, 11-7, in a wild non-league game Tuesday, May 9.
Ashley Engel hit 3-for-4 with a triple and one RBI for JFK and Brittany Montgomery hit 2-for-3 with two triples and two RBI. Dew Spadoni hit 2-for-3 with two RBI and two triples as well and Maggie Whaley hit 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Univ. Prep 12, SCS 2
Seattle Christian suffered a non-league setback in a game stopped after five innings because of a 10-run rule.
Fife 6, Tyee 2
Jenna Ladenberg hit 2-for-3 with one run scored for the Totems in last Wednesday’s non-league loss. Marie Faye-Shaffer hit 1-for-3 with a home run, and two RBI. Amelia Sample hit 1-for-3.
For Fife, Alison Stewart hit 2-for-4 with one run scored.
Arch. Murphy 2, Kennedy 1
Kennedy came up short of Archbishop Murphy in a close non-league game Thursday.
Karli Merlich of the Lancers struck out 11 and walked none but still absorbed her first pitching loss of the year.
Baseball
Fife 2, Highline 1
Fife scored two runs in the top of the seventh to wrest the win away Wednesday after Highline had taken a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Aaron Parente threw the entire game against the Pirates, allowing only two hits. He struck out 10 and walked only two
Cory Stevens hit 2-for-3 with two doubles, Arek Jones 1-for-3 with a triple and Steve Suttell 1-for-1 with an RBI David David Wagner also hit 1-for-3 RBI.
David Macey of Highline also threw seven innings, striking out six and allowing one walk and five hits in seven innings.
Mt. R. 13, Sequim 6
Mount Rainier cruised past Sequim in action played Wednesday.
Justin Thornton hit 2-for-2 for the Rams with a double, triple, was hit by a pitch three times and and scored three runs. Chris Mahoney hit 2-for-5, Garrett Cochran hit 1-for-2 on a double and was hit four times and scored four runs, Kyle Baskett 1-for-4 with three RBI, Matt Rogers 1-for-2 with two hit by pitches and two runs and Phillip Horton hit 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI.
Highline 4, Sequim 2
The Pirates prevailed against the Wolves in Thursday’s loser-out game.
Highline pulled off the win by scoring three runs in the sixth inning, and by receiving a complete-game pitching outing by David Wagner. The Pirates advanced into a loser-out game after press time Saturday.
Mt. R. 2, Fife 1
Mount Rainier grabbed a state baseball playoff berth with its close victory over the Trojans Friday.
Darryl Morrow threw all seven innings for the Rams, striking out nine. Justin Thornton hit 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Sea. Luth. 16, Ev. Luth. 13
Evergreen came up on the short end of a wild playoff score Friday. Oka hit 4-for-4 and Gentele 2-for-3 for the Eagles in the loss.
