Kenneth Wicker, 50, of Des Moines was fatally shot Sept. 17 by a city policeman.
Six officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of South 257th Street around 2 p.m. after receiving reports of Wicker making suicide threats.
Three officers who went to the back of the home, while three others stayed in front, found Wicker armed with what looked like a handgun in the backyard.
After he refused orders to drop his gun, officers fired bean bags at him five times.
Wicker still did not put the gun down, and when he turned toward the officers brandishing the gun, one officer fired.
The gunshot fatally wounded Wicker. Officers administered first aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police later determined the realistic-looking weapon was a BB gun.
Two officers have been placed on administrative leave pending a full investigation by the Auburn Police Department.
One is a 25-year veteran, the other a 15-year veteran.
