The Burien/Normandy Park Fire Department (Fire District 2) will ask voters in the Sept. 20 primary election to approve Proposition 1, which would set the property tax levy rate at $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed valuation.

Approval of Proposition 1, which would allow the fire district to exceed the limitation imposed by Initiative 747, will allow the department to maintain its current level of fire response, prevention programs and emergency medical services.

Rejection, according to the King County voters' pamphlet, "would lead to the loss of more than $300,000 in projected revenue, which would necessitate service cutbacks, including possible layoff of personnel."
