Headlining National Night Out events in Highline communities on Tuesday, Aug. 1., will be Maia Santell & House Blend performing jazz in front of Normandy Park Senior Living.
In addition to the jazz served up at 16625 First Ave. S. between 6 and 8 p.m., fiesta platters from Azteca and free hotdogs and sodas will be available.
The theme of Normandy Park's community National Night Out event, at which local police officers and firefighters will be on hand, is "Give Neighborhood Crime and Drugs a Going Away Party."
National night out events will also be held in Burien, Des Moines, SeaTac, Tukwila and the North Highline Unincorporated Area.
Now in its 23rd year, National Night Out is a campaign that involved more than 34 million participants across the nation in 2005, including citizens, law enforcement and fire agencies, neighborhood organizations and businesses in the United States and Canada.
Block parties, neighborhood cookouts, highlight national Night Out and flashlight walks.
The event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anticrime programs, strengthen neighborhood-police partnerships, and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organizing and fighting back.
