The city of Burien will hold a public meeting Wednesday, Oct. 19, to continue a community dialogue on the Town Square development.
The 6:30 p.m. meeting at City Hall is a follow-up to the well-attended session on Sept. 15, during which Town Square developer Urban Partners presented details on housing, retail and other components of Town Square.
Issues raised and questions asked at that meeting will be discussed on Oct. 19.
A professional facilitator will conduct the upcoming meeting, and people attending will be asked to form into smaller groups to examine various components of Town Square, such as housing and retail strategies.
The city of Burien has entered into partnership with Urban Partners and the King County Library System for the $130 million development at Southwest 152nd Street and Fourth Avenue South.
The development will include more than 300 high quality condominiums built over retail shops and surrounding a spacious public plaza.
A new joint City Hall/Regional Library will anchor one corner of Town Square.
The project will include new streets and other improvements to the infrastructure. There will be ample space for parking, with more than 600 spaces in the structures and on side streets.
Urban Partners is paying the majority of development costs associated with Town Square, with the city paying for roads, the center park plaza and its share of the joint city hall/library.
Burien has set aside funds for the Town Square development and is not seeking additional tax revenue for the project from City residents.
Construction is expected to begin in fall 2006 and continue through 2010.
