Mr. Dean Parkins wrote a letter published in the Oct. 5 Times/News that merits a response. His reactions to alleged negative comments regarding local car dealers in a letter circulated by Citizens for Honesty in Government are baseless.
The [Citizens'] letter did not make any judgments whatever about car dealers who do provide necessary services to the community. The only attack is that of Mr. Parkins and his false accusations.
The letter did point out that car dealers have made substantial contributions to the election campaigns of Stephen Lamphear, Noel Gibb and Steve Denmark. Notably, the dealerships did not contribute to any of their opponents (all are women).
This information was obtained from C3 forms filed with the PDC and can be verified on pdc.wa.gov.
We feel that this sort of information is important for voters to consider because candidates may be strongly influenced by their financial backers. There are important current and ongoing developments in the Town Square development, taxes for the First Avenue undergrounding and the potential annexation of White Center, among others.
Burien voters need to consider whose interest the next City Council members are likely to represent.
Citizens for Honesty in Government is not affiliated with any candidate or organization. For a copy of the aforementioned letter, please write us at P.O. Box 868, Seahurst, WA 98062.
