robbery in Des Moines
A Des Moines convenience store clerk was shot during an armed robbery early the morning of July 14.
According to Des Moines police, two men entered the 7-11 store in the 2900 block of Kent-Des Moines Road around 2 a.m.
During the holdup, the clerk was shot once just above the heart.
When police arrived at the scene, the 50-year-old man was conscious. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center. No report on his condition was available by Friday's deadline.
Both suspects fled, one in a car.
Police were reviewing surveillance tape for more leads, and to obtain identifies of the suspects.
'Attila the Bun' arrested
A female bank robber dubbed "Attila the Bun" was arrested last week after she and an adult male robbed the clerk at a 76 Station on West Valley Highway in Tukwila.
"Attila" fled the store on July 11 at 3 a.m. The store clerk was able to give a description of the car and a license plate number.
A few minutes later she was pulled over by Renton Police.
She was given the name Attila the Bun by the FBI after robbing several banks with her hair pulled back in a bun.
Investigators believe she is responsible for four other robberies in the North Seattle area.
Man assaulted in drug buy
A man was robbed and beat up after trying to buy marijuana from two unidentified males on July 10 around 10:20 a.m.
Shortly after that, the victim approached a Des Moines Police officer standing near the corner of South 216th St. and 29th Ave. S. and said he had just been robbed.
He told the officer that while walking to the 7-11, two men approached him and demanded that he give them his money and when he didn't was beat up and robbed.
The officer thought the man was lying and asked him to tell the truth.
The victim then said he approached the two men and asked if they had any weed to sell. They said they only had "cream" (liquid cocaine). He said he was not interested in that, only weed.
The two men then stole his money and beat him up, kicking him the stomach and face.
Officers did an area check but no suspects were found.
School girl assaulted in Des Moines
An 11-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in Des Moines while waiting for a bus on July 10 at about 7:30 a.m.
The girl, who attends summer school at Adelaide Elementary School, was standing on 16th Ave. S. near Woodmont Elementary in Des Moines.
A man who started asking her questions about her clothing approached her and she kept her back to him.
He grabbed and squeezed her buttocks and then fled in his car, going south on 16th Ave. S.
The man is described as white, in his mid 30s, clean shaven, with a thin build. He was wearing blue jeans, and drove a royal blue pickup truck.
