Republicans will challenge incumbent Democrats in only three of eight legislative races in the Highline area this year.
None of the local legislative contests will be on the Sept. 19 primary election ballot.
The race that likely will receive the most attention is the re-election bid of Sen. Karen Keiser, D-Des Moines, in the 33rd Legislative District.
Republican Karen Steele of Normandy Park opposes Keiser, who chairs the Senate Health and Long Term Care Committee.
Steele is chairman of the 33rd District Republicans.
In District 11, Republican John Potter is running against first-term Democratic Rep. Bob Hasegawa.
Republican Savun Neang opposes district 34 Democratic Rep. Joe McDermott.
More attention than usual may be focused on congressional races in the Highline area.
Republican Steve Beren is challenging District 7 Democratic Rep. Jim McDermott, who first will face two challengers in the September primary.
In District 9, Democratic Rep. Adam Smith is opposed by Republican Steve Cofchin.
