I hope the residents of North Highline read the review of West Seattle Junction in the Oct. 26 issue of the Seattle Times' Northwest Weekend. That is only one example of a Seattle neighborhood that is thriving within the Seattle city limits. There are numerous other Seattle neighborhoods such as Ballard and Fremont doing the same.
Seattle is not the big bugaboo that many residents of North Highline make it out to be. Seattle is much more able to absorb and develop North Highline than Burien would be.
The Burien City Council can barely keep their thumbs on the existing boundaries of Burien. The current funding situation for Burien is almost out of control. Granted, the city council is trying to make Burien better, but they do not seem to be able to do so with what we have right now.
Even dollar stores cannot make it in Burien. And now the West Seattle Junction may be getting a Whole Foods store. What new and exciting stores are on the horizon for Burien? More liquidation stores? More tattoo parlors?
Since the city council is not fully able to make the existing Burien better, they have turned to bigger. Everyone knows that bigger is better.
