A Port Orchard man was sentenced last week to 60 years in prison for killing two men in the Southcenter mall parking lot on Sept. 12, 2005, during a drug deal.
Thomas Osbourne Marshall, 55, was sentenced following convictions in King County Superior Court for first-degree murder.
He shot Felix Payan Cruz, 27, and Noe Carrasco Salazar, 17, during a midday heroin transaction.
The shootings occurred in a car a few yards from the Nordstrom store in the shopping mall.
According to investigators Marshall shot the two men in the back of the head while he was in the back seat and they were in the front during the deal.
Marshall's girlfriend told investigators he bought $50 worth of drugs from the men because he was short on a pain prescription. After the killing, police found money and drugs in the car.
Arson fire destroys van
A van parked outside the Legend Motel at 22204 Pacific Hwy. S. in Des Moines was destroyed by fire on Oct. 21 around 5:30 p.m.
According to South King Fire and Rescue investigators, the fire was arson caused.
Des Moines police officers reported that the van belonged to a homeless woman who lived in the van.
Neither the woman, who lost all her belongings in the fire, nor a man she was with at the motel knew anyone who would set the fire.
A police officer questioned the motel manager, who said he saw nothing and couldn't provide surveillance tapes because they were broken.
But two people staying in a room said they saw someone pull up to the van and walk over to it, heard the person say, "now I'm happy," and then saw him leave.
