City Council members and committees comprised of department heads, city staff and community residents last week interviewed finalists for the vacant Burien city manager position.
A meet-the-candidates reception was held Oct. 19. The interviews were conducted Sept. 19-20.
David Cline, who had been assistant city manager, has served as interim city manager since Gary Long resigned from that post effective last Jan. 1.
No vote on a new city manager was scheduled for the Sept. 23 council meeting. Lawmakers were expected to review recommendations from the three committees before scheduling a time for selection.
The city manager candidates are:
Kelly Arnold, who was city manager of Grand Junction, Colo., from 2000 to July. Previously he was city manager in Laramie, Wyo., from 1997 to 2000 and assistant city manager in Laramie from 1990 to 1997.
Cline, who currently is interim city manager of Burien, was assistant city manager in 2004-05, assistant to the city manager in 2003-04, and senior management analyst in 2002-03.
Larry Lehman, who has been city manager of Pendleton, Ore., since 1993. From 1982 to 1993, he was city manager of Seaside, Ore.
Bill Malinen, who currently is city manager of Lynwood. He was city manager of Fife in 2002-03, and city manager of Lincoln, Calif., from 1993-2001.
Mike Martin, who was chief administrative officer of Kent from 2000 to 2005. Prior to that, he held a number of positions with the city of San Francisco for seven years, including in the mayor's and budget offices and with public safety.
Greg Sparks, who has been city administrator of Owatonna, Minn., since 1995. From 1988-1995, he was city administrator of Worthington, Minn.
