Start the holiday season in style with a horse-and-carriage ride during Burien's Winterfest, a one-day event on Saturday, Dec. 2, packed with free activities and in-store specials.
During the festivities from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., stroll Southwest 152nd Street-decked out in holiday lights and greenery-while being serenaded by carolers.
Pose for a photo with Santa at the offices of Prudential Northwest Realty Associates at 930 S.W. 152nd St., courtesy of Prudential. Bob Premel will donate his time to play Santa at Winterfest.
Take the stress out of the holiday shopping experience with Winterfest in-store specials at specialty stores that feature such items as European d/cor, the best in kitchenware, hand-beaded jewelry, fun clothing and more.
Warm up with hot treats like cocoa and spiced cider served at various businesses, or ignore the cold with some of the best ice cream in the Pacific Northwest.
Hayrides for the weary of feet will run along Southwest 152nd Street all day long. The horse-and-carriage rides will be from 1 to 5 p.m.
Also during Winterfest, crafts, antiques, lunch for $5 and more will be featured at the popular Annual Christmas Bazaar at St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church at the edge of Olde Burien from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Be forewarned: the home-baked goods disappear quickly, as do antiques and collectibles in the secondhand booth.
For information on the bazaar, call the church at 206-243-6844.
And don't miss out on the pottery at the Moshier Community Art Center Holiday Pottery Sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Arrive early at the center, 430 S. 156th St., for the best selection of pottery handcrafted by more than 30 Moshier students, instructors and studio potters.
Enter a raffle to benefit Moshier special population students. For information on the pottery sale, call 206-988-3700.
Winterfest is sponsored by the Discover Burien Association's Olde Burien Retail Group and Prudential Northwest Realty Associates LLC. For more information on Winterfest, call 206-433-2882 or go online to www.discoverburien.com.
Bob Premel, who is donating his time to play Santa for Winterfest, will also appear as Santa at Goodie Gumdrops, the Burien toy and candy store, later in the month.
Photos with Santa at Goodie Gumdrops, at the corner of Southwest 152nd and Ambaum Boulevard Southwest, will be taken on Dec. 9 and 16 from noon to 5 p.m.
A member of the Des Moines Lions Club, Premel will collect donations for Childhaven during his Goodie Gumdrops appearances.
