The North Highline Unincorporated Area Council is seeking applicants for an open at-large council position.
This vacancy was created when King County Deputy Sheriff Steve Cox, who also served as council chairman, was killed in the line of duty on Dec. 9.
Filing deadline is January 11. The selection of the candidate will be January 18 at the regular meeting of the council.
The North Highline Council meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month at the North Highline Fire District Office, 1243 S.W. 112th St.
Candidates must be 18 years and older, a resident of the area, and/or a business/property owner in the area or an official employed representative of a non-profit in the area.

The council represents residents and business/property owners of the North Highline Unincorporated Area in their dealings with King County and surrounding cities.
Issues of concern include annexation/incorporation, zoning/rezoning, public safety, parks, human services, surface water management, land use, transportation/roads/Metro service, drug houses, and projects to improve the quality or delivery of county services.
The council is comprised of 13 members representing the communities of Beverly Park, Boulevard Park, Glendale, Riverton Heights, Salmon Creek, Shorewood, South Park, Top Hat and White Center.
The area is divided into four legislative districts with two representatives from each district. The five remaining council members serve as at-large representatives of the community.
