Once again Washington state Rep. Shay Schual-Berke [D-Normandy Park] has shown her intelligence and compassion for the citizens in her district by introducing legislation that would require boarding homes and adult-family homes, or "all long-term care facilities," to have back-up power in the event of a power outage.
This new law would protect every citizen living in long-term care so when the next windstorm or ice storm happens, people won't be without power, heat or hot food for days or weeks.
My mother recently went without power for several days in her apartment for seniors. I boiled water for her tea over a candle. She was OK but several of our most senior neighbors were not.
Thanks Shay.
