The Evergreen Lutheran Lady Eagles basketball team completed their regular season last Thursday with a 66-15 rout of Mount Rainer Lutheran.
Evergreen never looked back as they scored the game's first 27 points, not giving up a point until five minutes into the second quarter.
"You never want to coach in a game like this, but it happens. It has been happening all year," coach Jeff Kurbis said.
Senior Rachel Hansen fueled the Eagles' charge with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Jessica Ide scored a game high 16 points for Evergreen.
At 18-1, Evergreen Lutheran hasn't been challenged by many opponents this season. Kurbis said playing in these types of games does allow the team to work on facets of the game that need work.
Knowing that his team had Mount Rainer outsized, Kurbis spent the first quarter of the game working on three-point shooting. The girls were not allowed to shoot inside the three point line during the first quarter unless it was on an offensive rebound.
In the second half Kurbis had the girls working on scoring the ball coming off screens.
In season where they have had many big wins, Kurbis feels it is "As soon as a team stops working on things is when they are going to get beat," he said.
The girls played for the league championship last night at Chief Leschi High School against King's West. Evergreen won their earlier meeting with King's 57-54 in triple overtime. Results of last night's game were not available at press time.
