Mick Kelly's Irish Restaurant & Pub in Burien is seeking donations of quality items for a benefit the pub will hold Thursday, March 1, for the son of slain police officer Steve Cox.
Dedicated to helping the White Center community where he was raised, Cox was shot to death Dec. 9 while questioning a suspect in a White Center home.
Cox's wife, Maria, and one-year-old son Bronson survive the nine-year veteran of the King County Sheriff's Department, who was a resident of Normandy Park.
Funds raised by the benefit will go into a college fund for Bronson.
Mick Purdy, one of the pub's owners, said that all of the establishment's profits on food and drink from 6 p.m. to closing on March 1 will go to the college fund.
A $5 per person cover charge and proceeds from a raffle or auction also will be donated to the fund.
"Even our staff are donating their time to increase the amount of money we're giving," Purdy said.
The pub, which periodically holds benefits for special causes, is soliciting donations from local businesses and individuals for a raffle or possibly an auction.
On April 22, it will close from 2 to 6 p.m. to host a charity event for New Futures, a Burien-based nonprofit group that assists underprivileged families.
Located at 435 S.W. 152nd St. in Burien, Mick Kelly's also has some new menu offerings.
By hiring the kitchen manager of Meal Makers restaurant, which closed in December, the pub will dish up breakfast every day from 7 to 11:30 a.m. and a buffet brunch on Sundays, all beginning March 1. Seniors will get a discount on breakfast.
And Valentine's Day, they will serve a special three-course meal featuring entr/e choices ranging from a hearty cioppino to succulent Australian lobster tail paired with Angus top sirloin.

Deputy Cox also was the focus of Cascade Middle School's second Community Benefit Dance on Jan. 26, which honored his memory and celebrated his contributions to the community.
Seventy-five percent of donations collected at the event will be directed to the Cox family; the remaining 25 percent will benefit Cascade Middle School students, who come from the North Highline area.
The event featured a performance by Cascade Middle School band and food provided by local restaurants.
Among the neighborhood businesses that donated to this event were El Paysano Restaurant, Azteca Restaurant and Kiki Corona's Boutique.
