Following a review of a new master plan for the Des Moines Marina, city council members asked staff on Feb. 15 to revise the document.
Lawmakers want greater detail about renovations planned for the marina and the funding strategy to pay for the project.
Last week's meeting was the first time that the council had seen a lot of the financial information.
After viewing a picture of what the remodeled marina would look like, Mayor Pro Tem Scott Thomasson called for more detail on plans for parking and pedestrian access.
As council members turned their attention to financing the marina renovations, some lawmakers expressed apprehension about the cost of the project and where funds to pay for it will come from.
"Adopting the master plan is adopting the picture we saw," Thomasson declared. "If we can't afford the picture then we need a new picture."
"If you don't have the resources you have to change your vision," added Councilman Dan Sherman.
Some council members said the council needs more information on how much money the marina brings to the city. That will help them decide if the cost of remodeling the marina is a good investment in the long run.
Councilwoman Carmen Scott said the waterfront facility is useful, noting, "Without the marina we wouldn't have a spot that is extremely appealing for the Farmer's Market."
