I remain concerned about the fate of the Lora Lake apartment in Burien. I worry about the domino effect of losing workforce housing when our affordable housing stock is so critically low in King County. We have 8,300 homeless on any given night-thereby competing for these limited units.
When I shop at Trader Joe's or drive by parts of SR 509, I often see individuals who are homeless and in need of housing. They may not be able to afford workforce housing at the Lora Lakes Apartment complex but hopefully they will have access to other units that are deeply affordable housing that have services on-site to support their recovery.
I also know that many of the members of the city council work hard to advocate for businesses to thrive in Burien-an essential part of our community too. I certainly hope that our elected leaders will work with King County to find a way to save Lora Lake apartments and strengthen the development of businesses in downtown Burien.
