Ethelda Burke has been appointed Tukwila schools' interim superintendent, effective Oct. 17. The Tukwila School District Board of Directors at a regular board meeting on Sept. 11 made the appointment.
Burke recently resigned as Deputy Superintendent in the Tacoma School District. Burke has worked in the Tacoma School District for over 30 years, and rose from a teacher to Assistant Principal, Principal, Assistant Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent.
Burke holds a BA Degree and a Masters Degree from the University of Puget Sound, Principal Certification from Harvard University, and her Superintendent's Credentials from Seattle Pacific University.
Burke replaces Dr. James Q. Hammond who resigned as Superintendent, effective November 7.
