Allison Ohana is a 2007 graduate of Highline High School. Allison was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma 4 years ago at age 14. She was unresponsive to chemotherapy. which resulted in the amputation of her right leg. Unfortunately the cancer had already metastasized to her lungs at that time.
Throughout the next three years Allison was involved in several investigational drug studies and in April 2007 surgery was necessary to remove the lower lobe of her left lung. Allison championed through all of these procedures and now hopes to attend Santa Monica Community College in January 2008.
Currently there are no conventional treatments currently available in the U.S. to treat Allison's form of cancer.
Alternative forms of treatment have been sought by Allison and her family. Recently they have visited clinics in Rosarito Beach, Mexico and they found the Oasis of Hope Hospital (www.oasisofhope.com) to be very promising. It is their hope begin treatment immediately, but insurance will not cover the month long treatment.
Allison's prognosis is uncertain at this time. What is certain is that treatment is necessary for a chance at a healthy future. It is likely that the lower lobe of her right lung will need to be removed and additional therapies will be needed.
Her family hopes that with the treatment she will remain stable and avoid surgery. Her family extends heartfelt gratitude for your support and love.
