Kudos and thanks to Fred Novota, Burien, for his "'Shameful Act' at HSD" letter of Oct. 10.
I could hardly believe my eyes when I read the article regarding the DREAM program in your newspaper. Mr. Novota expressed my sentiments exactly and eloquently.
Are we already paying for the K-12 education of illegal immigrants to begin with? If so, these students need to go back to their country of origin and get their education there. I'm sure many of these students are very nice, moral, intelligent individuals, but that is beside the point.
The school district needs to realize that until a student can provide documentation, they are illegal and illegal means breaking the law. Or do our educators need a refresher course in English? And by condoning law breaking, what kind of example are they setting for our students?
The school board seems to have no regard not only to the cost of this proposed program, but also its far reaching subsequent domino effects, as outlined by Mr. Novota, to all of the citizens of the area and our country.
It is interesting that when groups come up with a "feel good" title for a program, such as DREAM, it usually means just the opposite for the legal taxpayers of this country. Fellow citizens, do not be fooled by wolves in sheep's clothing!
