A cooking demonstration for Hispanics and Latinos interested in healthy eating habits will be given Tuesday, Nov. 20, from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at La Canasta grocery store and restaurant in Burien.
Two recipes-for chicken and cilantro and a pinto bean salad-will be prepared from 2:30 to 5 p.m. by Edgar Lopez, a peer educator with Sea Mar Community Health Centers
La Canasta is located at 13602 Ambaum Blvd. S.W. in Burien.
November is American Diabetes Month. In King County, more than 85,000 children and adults have diabetes, and one out of every two minorities born in 2000 will develop diabetes in their lifetime if current trends continue.
Next week, the American Diabetes Association is highlight the "Many Faces of Diabetes" with a focus on at-risk populations.
The association and Sea Mar's REACH program will have literature on healthy eating available at the demonstration, which is being held to promote healthy eating habits and diabetes awareness.
