The Burien Police Department is accepting donations of gift certificates for needy families in the city this Christmas.

Community Service Officer Nicki Maraulja said they need gift cards or certificates in $20 increments to Albertson's, Fred Meyer and Safeway.

"We already have a list of at least 100 families we want to provide for," Maraulja said.

"Instead of gathering toys and food, the gift cards and certificates will enable these families to do that."

Donations of gift cards and certificates may be taken to Burien City Hall, 15811 Ambaum Blvd. S.W., Suite C, through Monday, Dec. 17.

Individuals, churches and businesses, and school and volunteer groups interested in adopting a family for the holidays is asked to call Maraulja at 206-296-3333.
